15 Years, 12 Countries: What We’ve Learned Delivering Across Borders
Team PGP have delivered infrastructure projects in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Qatar, Vietnam, and the United States.
Over the past 15 years, the PGP team have delivered technically complex data centre and infrastructure projects across twelve countries — from the UK and Ireland to Finland, Qatar, and Vietnam. Each market brings its own working practices, regulations, and expectations. Weather, logistics, local labour laws, and national safety codes can differ dramatically — yet every project still needs to perform flawlessly.
That’s where adaptability becomes a skill — and a mindset. It’s what allows our teams to stay consistent across borders while respecting the culture and conditions of every place we build. Now, as our team expands to support new projects in the United States, those lessons are more relevant than ever.
Building Consistency Across Borders
Delivering data centres across Europe means navigating a complex web of standards and systems. Even within the EU, differences persist — fire safety codes, electrical standards, and site supervision practices vary country to country. Procurement regulations, tax systems, and subcontractor licensing rules can change at the border.
PGP’s response has been to standardise what we can control: communication, process, and safety. Clear documentation, rigorous preconstruction planning, and proactive engagement with local partners are what keep projects on track — regardless of geography.
As Thomas Barber, PGP’s CEO, explains, ‘One of the most important things to remember when working internationally is that you’re a guest in someone else’s country. You have to respect the local culture, understand the laws, and listen. The best way to succeed is to reach out to local partners and go in with an open mind — ready to learn as much as you lead.’
That respect for local norms is paired with a non-negotiable insistence on the PGP way of working: clear communication, world-class health and safety, and disciplined delivery.
Lessons from Europe Applied in the US
PGP is currently supporting a client in the early stages of developing a US data-centre campus, including 3D modelling and structural analysis of an existing facility. This is not new territory for us — it’s an extension of what we’ve refined across Europe.
In markets like Germany and the Nordics, we’ve learned how to manage diverse supply chains, coordinate multi-contractor environments, and keep projects aligned through different regulatory and cultural landscapes. That experience transfers directly to the U.S. — helping us establish structure, manage risk, and build trust from the outset.
‘Our adaptability across regions comes from experience,’ says Thomas. ‘Once you’ve built that flexibility into your process, stepping into a new country becomes second nature.’
That mindset proved its worth immediately. Within 24 hours of landing Stateside, our team secured the supply chain, mobilised local contractors, and ultimately delivered the first scope ahead of schedule — proof that structured adaptability delivers real-world speed.
The PGP Way: Adaptability as a Discipline
For PGP, adaptability isn’t improvisation — it’s preparation, and the confidence to apply it under pressure. It’s the product of robust planning, disciplined process, and a belief that anything is possible with the right team.
‘You can turn up anywhere, with any challenge, and make it work — because you’ve done the groundwork, you trust your people and your partners, and you carry the unshakeable belief that you’ll do whatever it takes to deliver,’ adds Thomas.
Across twelve countries and counting, that discipline has made PGP a partner of choice for complex, mission-critical infrastructure — capable of delivering with the same consistency, confidence, and care, wherever the work takes us.
